Following the success of previous vintages this Selection is now a classic! Chosen for its originality, its exuberance and purity of fruit and characterised by its floral aromas, its roundness and minerality. A wine out of the ordinary, let it surprise you. Aromatically this wine is all flowers – very blossomy. There are subtle funky, nutty, spicy notes, but overall it is very pure and clean. For me, the real interest is on the palate, which is broad, textured and concentrated. It feels viscous and rich in glycerine. The initial honey and ripe pear fruit are quickly superseded by prominent stony mineral notes, which provide an appetising, slightly bitter finish. I find these types of wine are usually quite low in acidity, so the minerality is crucial for adding length and interest. Without it you have a boring, flabby wine. Thankfully, the tension between richness and stony minerality keeps things interesting and prevents the 14.5% a.b.v wine from becoming tiring.
