Producer Information
The Hugel family settled in the town of Riquewihr in Alsace in 1639 and remains a true family wine business to this day, now managed by th 12th and 13th generations of the family. The estate now spans 30 hectares around the town, with over 50% of the vineyards classified as Grand Cru. To ensure production that also buy grapes from a further 100 hectares farmed by partners with the same clay and limestone terroirs that define the character of Hugel wines.
The ‘Classic’ wine range embodies the essence of the pure, dry Famille Hugel style. The grapes are exclusively hand-picked, with the vines for the Gewürztraminer being at least 45 years old.
Production Information
2023 was primarily a year marked by drought, with a lack of warmth, resulting in an easy harvest on September 18th that will become one of the great vintages at Hugel.
The grapes are pressed by gravity before being rested in temperature controlled barrels. Light filtering follows the following spring, with the bottles then aged in the family cellars until release.
