Spring has finally shaken off winter’s cold, stubborn grip, and that subtle shift is unmistakable: longer evenings, blossom on the trees, finally a warm breeze, and an irresistible urge to swap heavy reds for something a little more… alive.

Spring has finally shaken off winter’s cold, stubborn grip, and that subtle shift is unmistakable: longer evenings, blossom on the trees, finally a warm breeze, and an irresistible urge to swap heavy reds for something a little more… alive.

Spring wines are all about freshness, vibrancy, and that first sip that makes you think, yes, this is exactly what I needed. Whilst crisp, fresh white wines are great for the season, rosé is really where it’s at, giving you a glimpse of the summer ahead.

Le Pic Rosé

Spring is when rosé starts to creep back into our lives, and frankly, we should welcome it with open arms. Pale Provençal styles are still the go-to, offering delicate strawberry and peach notes with a dry, refreshing finish. Whilst we stock a plethora of traditional Provence rose from 2800 to proper pink in a Bandol, the simple spring summer go to is Le Pic - crafted from small parcels of grapes in south west France this wine is bursting with wild strawberry and pink grapefruit flavours to delight all the rose drinkers in your life. Le Pic Rosé £10.99

Burnt House Pinot Meunier Rosé

But don’t overlook English rosé. Local producers have been quietly mastering elegant, food-friendly rosés that feel perfectly tuned to the British palate and climate. New to us at CH Wines is Burnt House, a great range of wines from near Stowmarket in Suffolk. They’ve created a bright, zesty rose from Pinot Meunier - a grape usually reserved for champagne blends - that is packed with strawberry, peach and citrus notes. Burnt House Pinot Meunier Rosé £19.50

Aglianico Rosato Spumante

Want something a little more fun and lively - we’ve got the perfect thing in another new product - a sparkling rose Aglianico from Donna Elvira in Campania, Italy. Delightfully pink with flavours of crunchy red berries, pomegranate and pink grapefruit, this is perfect with goats cheese salads, tomato based dishes or simply to enjoy in the sunshine. Aglianico Rosato Spumante £16.99

L’envolee Sauvage

If you’re not quite ready to abandon red wine altogether, spring calls for a lighter touch. Jump in with a lightly chilled bottle of Consult with L'envolee Sauvage from the LAnguedoc region of France. perfect for picnics, casual dinners, or those in-between days when the weather can’t quite make up its mind. Crunchy bright red fruits, floral notes and a touch of paper - simply gluggalicious! L’envolee Sauvage £12.99

If winter wines are about comfort, spring wines are about possibility and a reminder that lighter days are ahead, that meals can be simpler, the bbq fired up and wines enjoyed with friends in the sunshine. We’ve got you covered with a great range of spring wines, and if that’s not your bag there’s plenty of zesty spring spirits like Limoncello DiCapri to whet your appetite.
