Treat her right, treat your mother right
Treat her right, treat your mother right
We have taken the liberty to put together a range of wines that your mother will LOVE. Take the credit for the choices - Tell her you’ve done the research, tell her you’ve listened to what she likes, and tell her these are not available in those big nasty supermarkets. No need to thank us!
The great Mr T once said, ‘treat your mother right’ (honest, he wrote a song and everything. You can find it just here), and he wasn’t wrong. Undoubtedly we would all agree that mothers should be celebrated every single day for what they go though in life and parenthood, but having a date in the diary, pre planned, where we can go above and beyond to show them the levels of appreciation and love we have for them, is pretty useful. We have taken the liberty to put together a range of wines that your mother will LOVE. Take the credit for the choices - Tell her you’ve done the research, tell her you’ve listened to what she likes, and tell her these are not available in those big nasty supermarkets. No need to thank us!
Con Altura, Bodegas Altolandon, Spain - £21.99
Nothing screams I LOVE YOU like a bottle of bubbles, and instead of grabbing that cheap bottle of Prosecco, rock up with this bottle and she will instantly know you love her. This sparkling wine is made from Muscat, so its fruity, floral, and fun. This ancient method of making sparkling wine creates a gentle carbonation. As the wine is unfiltered it will have a cloudy appearance and some sediment in the bottle, which is entirely natural. This Pét-Nat is intensely aromatic, with white and pink flowers, subtle scents of honey and orange blossom, mandarin and stone fruit, all carried through on soft creamy bubbles.
Tete a Tete, Terret Blanc, France - £12.99
Impress your mother with this indigenous varietal, Terret, which isn’t dissimilar to Picpoul, and is grown in the same region, so it will definitely hit those flavour profiles of wines she will love. Weighty, zingy, long and delicious. Terret, one of the Languedoc’s oldest and unique varieties, has long been prized for its ability to hold onto its acidity in the heat of a Mediterranean summer. It’s lively with citrus flavours with a rounded mid-palate, tight with a mineral finish. An absolute bobby dazzler!
Sauvignon Gris, Casa Marin, Casablanca, Chile - £26.99
Maria Luz Marin is one of the most revered and respected winemakers in South America. A lady who doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer, with a career that’s littered with great achievements, accolades, and numerous firsts - it seems fitting to recommend this wine for mothers day.
Sauvignon Gris is pink-coloured grape that is a mutation from Sauvignon Blanc. A favourite among many chefs and sommeliers around the world. Powerful floral and spicy aromas with a touch of pink grapefruit. Ripe and mouth filling flavours, with a touch of smoky French oak. It’s mega, like your mum.
Soave ‘Le Calle’, Ilatium Morini, Italy - £18.50
The seven brothers and cousins involved in Ilatium Morini changed their approach in 2004, when they decided to keep the best grapes from their vineyards to make wine themselves. Since then, a torrent of accolades, including glowing reviews from Jancis Robinson, would suggest that they made the right decision. This is classy, classical wine - perfect for ‘treating your mother right’. This Soave, from the sub-zone of Le Calle, is ntense, complex and fine, with overtones of flowers, fresh fruit such as apple and peach, a hint of exotic fruit, and delicious, mouth-watering mineral acidity.
Pink Muscat, Stella Bella Wines, Australia - £14.99
If your mother has got a sweet tooth, this is the wine for you. This boutique winery in the heart of Margaret River creates wines with a low-intervention, organic ethos approach that allows their cherished vineyards to show their quality. Wines like this are always a winner. Slightly sparkling, slightly sweet, and packed full of flavours like fresh strawberry, Turkish delight, and hints of rosewater. There is a lovely, citrusy acidity throughout which ties everything together to deliver a supple, fresh and delicate finish.
So there you go. Wines that will impress your mum, and make you look good all at the same time.
